Who should attend the daily standup meeting?

I understand that the standup needs to be mandatory for the team but what about Product Owner, the Scrum Master and other people (management)? Should they be invited? Is it ok for them to participate in the meeting?

I've always been in favour of allowing anyone to attend as long as the expectation is set that the meeting is for the team and folks outside the team aren't allowed to participate.

The daily scrum can create visibility for management and stakeholders but I do understand why it might be a bad idea to invite these people depending on the type of organization.

The standup meeting is for the team. It is critical for them to coordinate and get as much value as possible. Ideally Product Owner is also present and it may be wise to invite others that may be interested. The key is to ensure that the team gets their coordination done and the meeting is not hijacked for status reports to management.

To keep Stand up meetings as focused as possible, only the team memebers, product owner and Scrum Master should attend. Additional management could be invited to Stand up meetings but it is best to limit their involvement to observation to keep focus on the team.
